The Loop is essentially a broker set of agreements and relationships that enable Top of the South schools to communication digitally with the world in a manner that is "Fat, Fast and Free" while working in a "2x click' environment. The core of the Loop is technically a virtual fibre loop leased from Network Tasman Limited extending across the top of the South Island. The active gear is branded Allied Telesis and is 1+ gigabytes/wavelength, capable of upgrading to 10 gigabytes. The Loop has negotiated purchase and lease arrangements in order to provide overlaying services. At the core of these services is the lease of server space which enables the Loop to provide services such as CCTV, SSO and archived video.
