There was a major power outage in central Nelson on the 15 Feb 2012.
The Loop stayed up but the NGC Loop server farm was shutdown.

Network Tasman plan to test a new redundant link between Nelson and Blenheim on their ‘Lit Network’ that may as a result effect customer traffic. Date: 13th February 2012 Time: 6pm to 8pm

NMIT outage at 8am 28 Jan 2012

A possible 30 min outage at NMIT is planned for 8am this Saturday 28 Jan 2012. In theory the NMIT and Lop UPS’s will hold up the active gear for that amount of time. This will probably mean that users will not notice the outage.

The KAREN International router in Sydney will be under going a software upgrade and will experience brief outage of up to 20minutes, when rebooted, at 9pm on Monday Dec 12th 2011 This service provides routes to AARNet, Google, and Microsoft.

Nov 30 2011 Internet outage

Dear all, Yesterday some of the Colleges had an Internet outage. The old firewall stopped routing to some schools. Unfortunately I was in a SuperLoop/KAREN meeting so I had my cell phone turned off. Danny was out of touch … but after a period Eion realised the problem and restarted the old firewall. We have a new replacement firewall in place but was not planning the changeover until the end of the academic year. We would still like to keep to this timetable as the changeover will require some configuration changes that we would rather not do while in use. We have only about a week to go --- if there is another outage please contact Geoff or Diane and they will get Eion to restart the firewall.. If I am out of touch feel free to contact Barry, Eion, Pete, Alex or even Tim to restart it. (if pushed). You will find all the contact details on the http://tools.theloop.local site. Suggestion: Pin the contacts page up somewhere handy. Geoff

The KAREN Los Angeles router has experienced a hardware fault and has been down since approximately 10pm Sunday November 13th. The formal support arrangements specify next business day for hardware, which is tomorrow US time. We are continuing to work towards a resolution as soon as possible and will provide ongoing updates. The KAREN weathermap (weathermap.karen.ac.nz) will be undergoing maintenance to migrate a partition on Friday the 4th of November from 7.30am - 9.00am. There will be an outage of up to 80 minutes during this window.

There is going to a planned outage this Monday 24 Oct 2011.(Labour Day) between 11am and 3pm. This involves the Loop virtual server farm, The Loop database server, LoopEd and EdSerf located at NGC. The ClickView, EdSerf, Loop web site and Intranet will also be offline. This is to enable the NGC server farm to be moved back into the new cabinets and racks as part of their SNUP. Please report any problems to Danny or NGC.

Information: Catalyst (My Portfolio and 'Learning on The Loop' Moodle) is upgrading their KAREN hosting environment.
These two sites will be moved to Commodity Internet (APE exchange in Auckland) while the upgrade is completed in Wellington.
Outage: More information will be released by Catalyst closer to the date.

Network performance: School may notice a degradation in these two clouds performance during this upgrade.

November 2011 (Diagnostic router)

Information: The Loop is installing a diagnostic router into the core of the Loop network.

This will result is better diagnostics in the more complex routing environment we now work in. There is not expected to be any outage. More information will be release on this site closer to the date.

November 2011 (Marlborough POP)

Information: The Loop is commissioning a gigabit Marlborough link to replace the 100 megabit Vlan donated by NMIT.
Information: The Loop is going to upgrade the Marlborough network by moving the Loop routing and core switch to the NTL POP at Yule house.
A Loop domain controller, DNS server, backup server and basic disaster recovery services will also be commissioned at the new Marlborough POP.
Outage: There will be a short nighttime 'cutover' outage. More information on this outage will released here closer to the date.

October-November 2011 (Old firewall routes)

This operational will be only affecting NGC, Nayland, Waimea and Collingwood - users should not notice any change.
